Vegetable washing station, Raised Beds, and Worm Benches

In addition to 22 raised beds, we have installed composts bins, farm tables, greenhouse benches, a vegetable wash area using a re-purposed sink (pictured) and these worm bins that double as benches at the Green Plate Special garden (2115 25th Ave. S., Seattle 98144, greenplatespecial.org).

“Founded in 2011, Green Plate Special (GPS) engages ethnically diverse, middle-school youth (ages 10 – 14) through classroom- and after-school, hands-on learning in the self-sufficiency skill of growing, cooking, and eating healthy, tasty food.

Green Plate Special is Seattle’s only middle-school specific, curriculum-based program combining food growing with cooking. They teach practical everyday life skills and are part of the solution to breaking the cycle of childhood obesity and other food related health issues.   They empower, urban youth to engage with nature, get their hands in the earth, and eat food that’s good for them.”
